Overview

Lucky 9 is a very basic but contains a strong punch of excitement card game. It is a common card game in casinos and even within the family households before and up to now. Generations and technologies improved and shazzam!, it is now part of the online card/casino universe. This game is also like a simplified Blackjack but is using the value of 9 as the goal score instead of 21. The objective of the game is to achieve a hand that would beat the dealer’s but not exceeding 9.

Scoring

The numerical value of the card will be its value – cards 2-9 are scored as their numerical value. For Aces, it is scored as 1. Tens, Jacks, Queens, and Kings, they are counted as 0 (zero). If a player gets a value of 10 or higher, the last digit of the score is considered the value of the player’s cards. For example, if a player gets 7 & 4, its total would be 11 so his hand value is now only 1.

Rules

The dealer gives every player two cards each. The dealer is also dealt with two cards but only one card is faced up. Each player takes his turn, from the right of the dealer, and will have the option to Hit or Stand – Hit is to ask for one last card from the dealer (if the player is still not satisfied with his hand value) and Stand is to stick to your current value. The strategy now comes into place here because the player must now analyze his card whether to hit for another card and expect a better value or just stick to his original value and hope that it will beat the dealer’s.

If the player gets a Lucky 9 (two-card combination from 1-8 with a total of 9) or a Natural 9 (two-card combination of 9 plus any of the Tens, Jacks, Queens, or Kings), he may not ask for a Hit and automatically sticks to his hand. If the dealer has no Natural, the player wins and gets his bet plus payout amount. If both the dealer and the player have a Natural, it is considered a tie (or a “Stand Off”) and the player gets his bet back. And if, in case, only the dealer has a Natural, he wins and gets all the players’ bets then proceeds to the next round.

At first, it may look very basic and just a full-of-luck game but in reality, it is always how a player calculates the odds and the best possible outcome of a combination can be. For example, having a two-card hand with a value of more than 5 is very less favorable for a hit since you are already increasing the chance of getting a value higher than 9 if you try to take another card. This simply means that if you already have an Ace and a 5, which totals 6, and you still plan to Hit, there is now an increased chance that you might exceed 9 if you pick another card higher than 3. This, in turn, will only decrease the total value of your hand so it may be best to just Stand and hope for the dealer to get a bad hand. Try to analyze your cards and the one shown by the dealer.
